Chord Progressions
In Songbuilder, a chord progression is a sequence of chords that can be used to create a backing track for a song. You can select from a variety of chord types, including triad chords and some four tone chords. It is important to note that your chord progression is defined independently of the key, allowing you to use any key later. You can specify the duration of each chord you select in measure units, allowing you to customize the timing of your chord in the progression. It is worth noting that currently only triad chords and some four tone chords are available in Songbuilder.
In Songbuilder, you can define an inversion or apply "auto" inversion for each chord in your chord progression. It is considered best practice to start chord progressions with the "default" inversion to avoid the note height "moving" in a certain direction upon repetition. You can also define the following properties for your chord progression:
- A name to help you identify the progression
- The measure base, or the number of beats per measure, to help you keep track of timing
You can save your chord progression as a preset for later use in other songs, making it easier to reuse progressions that you have already created.
